TERMINAL TRANSMISSION #39: THE ABYSS STARES BACK

TERMINAL TRANSMISSION #39 :  THE ABYSS STARES BACK by Chris La Vigna ( @Chris_LaVigna )/featuring a review from Ray Berly ( @autotopsyturvy ) The void is calling your name... Today's broadcast of TERMINAL TRANSMISSION was tight as a snare drum man. The songs rocked, my talk segments felt like they were on point, and I even made the right big boy decision to cut the last song from my set once I realized I was going to go over my time slot. I've admittedly had a bad habit of cutting into the following Kpiss DJ's set, and I'm doing my best not to be too greedy. My "Bandcamp Pick Of The Week" for today's show was the song " Take The Crown " by Signals Of Bedlam, a super cool and heavy Prog Metal band out of NYC. I've played them on the show before, and I'm excited to hear their new material. It sounds like their upcoming album is going to be full of heavy, distorted soundscapes with some challenging and math rock-y type beats and riffs. Che...

TERMINAL TRANSMISSION #38: STRANGER DAYS

TERMINAL TRANSMISSION #38 :  STRANGER DAYS by Chris La Vigna ( @Chris_LaVigna )/ featuring a review from Ray Berly ( @autopsyturvy ) Lenny Nero's seen some heavy stuff, man... Today's broadcast of TERMINAL TRANSMISSION was a fun trip into the bleeding edges of my weird obsession with a random Kathryn Bigelow film from the 1990s. I guess I'm a sucker for grimy, turn-of-the-21st century, still-using-mini-discs cyberpunk aesthetics. Along with some tracks off the film's OST, I also picked songs that I felt were in line with the movie's dystopian neo-noir tone. My "Bandcamp Pick Of The Week" was the absolute banger of a new track, " Displacement " by the boys in Maintenance, possibly the best band active in the 914 as of this writing. This track has so much energy, so much heart, so much range, I anticipate great things to come from the band's new lineup and evolved sound. I highly recommend throwing some money at this band. You can buy their l...

TERMINAL TRANSMISSION #37: MADNESS?

TERMINAL TRANSMISSION #37 :  MADNESS? by Chris La Vigna ( @Chris_LaVigna ) Could it be?!?! This week's broadcast of TERMINAL TRANSMISSION was great, partially because it ran smoothly, partially because there was a good handful of people keeping things lively in the chat (shout out to Matt Matthews, Dj Alexis, and Sulk Hogan!), and partially because the kick ass mix of tunes helped me purge a large chunk of the anxiety that's been hanging over my head since that pesky little attempted insurrection at our nation's capital last Wednesday. My "Bandcamp Pick Of The Week" was the song " The Encounter " by Syracuse-based stoner metal band Cactus Cathedral, off their December 2020 album "The Forgotten Frontier." I pretty much just randomly happened upon their Bandcamp page while searching for some new metal tunes to rock out to, and there they were!  This band does a good job of blending doom metal, blues metal, and even some hard rock influences int...

TERMINAL TRANSMISSION #36: (FROST)BITE ME

Image
TERMINAL TRANSMISSION #36 :  (FROST)BITE ME by Chris La Vigna ( @Chris_LaVigna ) Jack's feelin' the BURRRRR... Today's broadcast of TERMINAL TRANSMISSION, the first of the year 2021, was freakin' awesome man. I went in there, guns blazing, high on my 90s morning zoo DJ vibes, and I honestly feel like I nailed it. This was an awesome way to start off the show for the new year. Hopefully I can find a way to keep this positive energy going. My first "Bandcamp Pick Of The Week" for 2021 was the song " Smegma " by Powerviolets. Pretty sure I discovered this band through one of singer/songwriter Violet Hetson's Tik Toks haha. But once I checked out her music, I was thoroughly impressed. "Smegma" is the closing track on her 2020 release "No Boys" and the whole album is a powerful piece of 21st-century shoegaze. I highly recommend buying it, it's the perfect kinda of sad-yet-snarky music one can use to power through the dregs of...
