CHRIS' QUARANTINE RECOMMENDATION OF THE DAY (5/4/20):
METALLICA MONDAYS
By Chris La Vigna (@Chris_LaVigna)
Alright you dorks, I know you're all busy doing your Star Wars thing and texting "May the Fourth be with you" and all that cutesy shit, but stop jerking off to videos of neckbeards ranting about THE LAST JEDI for a second and listen up, because the mighty Metallica is doing something that actually makes Mondays worth getting up for: streaming full concerts on their YouTube page under the banner #METALLICAMONDAYS!
In a display of solidarity with metal heads the world over who are struggling to not completely lose their minds while under lockdown, Metallica is streaming full recordings of their concerts from all over the globe, throughout the decades. All you have to do is head over to their YouTube page at 8:00PM EST/5:00PM PST, and you can watch along with thousands of fans the world over. Last week's video was from a concert in Muskegon, Michigan in November '91, around the beginning of their tour to support The Black Album--and only a few weeks after yours truly was born (COINCIDENCE?! Yes, yes it is. There's absolutely no connection between me and Metallica besides me being an embarrassingly huge fan).
Other concerts they've posted so far include shows from Denmark, France, Ireland, and San Francisco, California. Personally I'm looking forward to seeing some footage of concerts from the late 90s/early 2000s. I've actually grown to like a lot of songs from the LOAD/RELOAD era ( I know, I know, blasphemy!) and I'd love to see footage of them rocking out to those songs live.
Also, if you miss the shows when they stream live, don't worry. Metallica's been keeping the shows posted on the page for people to watch later, and presumably they'll be up there at least until the majority of the stay-at-home orders have lifted.
So yeah, I don't think there's much more that needs to be said for this one. If you're a Metallica fan who's not only missing seeing the band live, but going to live shows in general, this might help scratch the itch and give you a little bit of the rush you get when you're in a stadium watching the band shred through classic tracks like "Seek and Destroy" and "Blackened." And if you're not a Metallica fan, well, have fun being lame. I kid, I kid (not really).
Here's a video of them playing live at Slane Castle in Meath, Ireland on June 8th of last year. Join me in watching whatever show they exhume from the vaults tonight!
