CHRIS' QUARANTINE RECOMMENDATION OF THE DAY (5/15/20)

DAVID BOWIE x NINE INCH NAILS = "DISSONANCE"

David Bowie was an iconic rockstar whose career spanned decades, and his work continues to influence legions of musicians to this day. One of the keys to Bowie's success was his willingness to experiment with new sounds and adapt his style to the times--as evidenced by the fact that he credited Kendrick Lamar's then-recent album TO PIMP A BUTTERFLY as an influence on his final album BLACKSTAR.

Well, back in 1995, Bowie was keen on experimenting with the wild sounds of industrial rock that were being pioneered and popularized by artists like Trent Reznor, the mastermind behind Nine Inch Nails. He took inspiration from these harsh soundscapes to craft his underrated album 1.) OUTSIDE. When he took the album on tour in the fall of '95, he recruited Nine Inch Nails to co-headline with him, and the resulting musical greatness is captured in the 45-minute live video simply titled "Dissonance, live 1995"

The things I would do for the ability to time travel and see these two together live...

The video starts off strong with Nine Inch Nails performing "Wish," then dives right into a glorious joint set between NIN and Bowie, along with his backing band, wherein they jam out to classic songs in their respective catalogues, such as "Scary Monsters", "The Man Who Sold The World", "Hurt", "Reptile", "The Hearts Filthy Lesson" and even a rousing cover of "Under Pressure."

The uploader of the video was also kind enough to include an additional link in the description, which leads to footage of Bowie and Reznor being interviewed by Kurt Loder back in his MTV News days. I highly recommend starting off your Quar weekend with this meeting of the minds between two titans of rock!
