CHRIS' QUARANTINE RECOMMENDATION OF THE DAY (4/17/20): THE BOOGIE MONSTER

CHRIS' QUARANTINE RECOMMENDATION OF THE DAY (4/17/20)

THE BOOGIE MONSTER

By Chris La Vigna (@Chris_LaVigna)

It's time to get spooky and funny, but mostly funny, with THE BOOGIE MONSTER

Today's Q-Rec is another great podcast, a show that takes a fun and lighthearted approach to the paranormal, while also taking the time to talk about comedy, food, and all the other good stuff that makes life worth living, THE BOOGIE MONSTER.

Hosted by comedians/longtime friends Kyle Kinane and Dave Stone, THE BOOGIE MONSTER (tagline: podcasting the unknown) is a show where Kyle and Dave hang out and discuss all sorts of conspiracy theories, urban legends, and cryptozoological curiosities that amuse them. Everything from Nostradamus and Bigfoot to The Faking Of The Moon Landing and Haunted Hotels is discussed, usually with some light wikipedia-based "research" to back it up.

This podcast has a relaxed vibe to it; the subject matter is always discussed in a very tongue-in-cheek-way, usually with Dave discussing the anomaly and taking it at face value while Kyle leans back (metaphorically, and maybe literally too, I don't know, it's a podcast not a video) and questions the facts Dave presents with a healthy dose of skepticism.

From left: Kyle Kinane, Dave Stone, Jessica Chobot, & Andrew Bowser. I had to pull a photo of them appearing on a different podcast because there's surprisingly few pics of them together. CONSPIRACY?! Nah, probably not...

The vibe you'll get from listening to this is that you walked into your buddy's apartment while he and a mutual friend of yours are getting stoned and/or tossing back some beers and talking about weird shit they saw on the internet. Trust me, you'll want to do nothing more than sit down and join them.

Kyle & Dave usually spend the first twenty minutes or so catching up with each other, and there's plenty of episodes where they never get around to discussing whatever paranormal topic they had on deck. Instead they'll talk about comedy, how the life of being a touring comic is treating them, new recipes Dave is trying or new records he's acquired, Kyle's burgeoning cyclist hobby, etc. To some that might sound a bit mundane, but I'll kindly remind you that these guys are both very funny, so they manage to make pretty much any topic entertaining.

So if you're looking for a fun podcast about ghosts and monsters and everything else, one that shoots from the hip and helps you relax a bit during these constantly crazy times, check out THE BOOGIE MONSTER.

THE BOOGIE MONSTER can be found on Starburns Audio, Stitcher, Spotify, obscure HAM radio frequencies, and wherever else you get your podcasts. To get you started, here's a link to their most recent episode, "Ramble Tamble."
