CHRIS' QUARANTINE RECOMMENDATION OF THE DAY (4/16/20):

ASSORTED YOUTUBE VIDEOS I LIKE THAT YOU'LL LIKE TOO IF YOU HAVE GOOD TASTE...

By Chris La Vigna (@Chris_LaVigna)

This pic has nothing to do with the rest of the piece I just thought it would make a good header image.

I'll be honest, I was having trouble thinking of something good to recommend today. I myself have a bunch of movies and shows I need to catch up on, and I don't wanna recommend anything unless I know it's good, so today I'm just gonna rattle off a bunch of YouTube videos that I like, that you may or may not have already seen. So check 'em out; some of them are funny, some of them are just music videos or live concert footage I dig, and some of them are just plain weird. Enjoy! Or don't! Piss off!

1.) FUCK YOU BALTIMORE

I can't remember how I stumbled upon this video (I think fellow indie filmmaker Chris LaMartina shared it on Facebook or something) but I absolutely adore it. It's a hilariously stupid and vulgar fake car commercial ad that looks amazingly legit. You could totally believe this somehow slipped by the censors and aired on TV late one night.

Rumor has it that this is because it was actually a gag made by some real ad editors/copywriters and shown at some regional award show for local advertisers. It was never meant to be seen outside that show but of course it leaked out anyway. I don't know how true that is, but I have no reason not to believe it, so I'm gonna roll with it.

2.) NEW YORK CITY IN 1993 IN HD - DTHEATER DVHS DEMO TAPE

The title pretty much says it all here. This is literally just a roughly five minute long montage of HD footage of NYC from '93. But what it makes it notable is the fact that this is all shot on a very early VHS tape version of HD from the early 90s,  so the quality of the footage is uniquely clear and crisp. I'm so used to video recordings from the 90s being buried under layers upon layers of distortion and just generally limited visually quality. It's amazing to see footage of the city hustling and bustling that's so vivid,  it makes you feel like you're actually walking around New York City in the early 1990s.

Whoever cut this footage also set it to some relaxing muzak that really ties the whole thing together. It's really nice and peaceful, and every now and again I just throw this on to chill out and meditate a little bit.

3.) MIDNIGHT TRASH: "NIGHT TRAP"(AIRED ON JAN. 28, 2019)

As many of my friends and family already know, and any others out there who actually read this blog, I'm a huge fan of all things [adult swim], up to and including their streaming content ( I seriously have to do a Q-Rec just about the streams soon). This video is a recording of a live call-in show that is essentially the pilot episode for a program that never made it to becoming a regular part of the streams. It's called MIDNIGHT TRASH, and it features this dude who drunkenly hangs out and offers commentary to all the cut scenes for the infamous FMV game NIGHT TRAP.

I thought it was pretty fun (in fact you can hear me call in and chat about the one GOOSEBUMPS FMV game I played obsessively as a kid around the 24 minute mark), and if you're into obscure media or anything that exudes the strange energy of 80s/90s pop culture junk, check this out. I still say it's a damn shame this show never got picked up.

4.) RAWG (GWAR UNMASKED) - FULL SHOW, LIVE AT GWARBAR IN RICHMOND VA. 8/31/19, DAVE BROCKIE CELEBRATION!

This is video a full live performance from the legendary metal band GWAR. As the title fully lays out, this is the band's alternate unmasked version, RAWG,  playing at a tribute show outside the GWAR BAR in Richmond, VA in celebration/remembrance of their original fallen frontman Dave Brockie (AKA Oderus Urnungus). RAWG would perform every now and again as a way for the band to test out new material and just play shows that didn't involve getting decked out in their full costumes and having to douse everyone with gallons fo fake blood.

It's a great live show that captures the fun energy that GWAR can have even without the theatrical elements that have come to define their concerts. It also showcases the singing talents of current frontman Michael Bishop (AKA Blothar The Berserker), who used to play bass/the character of Beefcake The Mighty for the band back in the 1990s.

5.) EVERY 90S COMMERCIAL EVER (UNCENSORED)

This video is so brilliantly twisted. It starts off as a pitch perfect parody of every commercial for every sports drink or unhealthy snack marketed to kids in the halcyon days of Dunkaroos and Surge soda, then it takes a hard left turn and descends into full-on body horror that would make David Cronenberg proud. This is one of those videos that I'm jealous I didn't make.

6.) TWO HONDA BOBS?!

RIP House of Honda in Mamaroneck, NY. Real ones know. Alright, that's all I've got for today. See you goons tomorrow!
