TERMINAL TRANSMISSION #49: DOUBLE AGENT

 TERMINAL TRANSMISSION #49

DOUBLE AGENT

by Chris La Vigna (@Chris_LaVigna)

You should watch ATOMIC BLONDE. It rocks.

Today's broadcast of TERMINAL TRANSMISSION was super fun and comfortable, like slipping into an old pair of running shoes and sprinting through the park while blasting the song "Double Vision" by Foreigner on repeat through your headphones... what, too specific?

Since my forty-ninth show coincided with the tail end of "Covers Week" on Kpiss.FM, I decided to play ball and pack my playlist from top-to-bottom with the best covers I could get my freaky little fingers on. I made sure to bust out some cool heavy metal covers, like White Zombie's excellent version of the classic Black Sabbath song "Children Of The Grave." Both versions of that track will always shred!

It's been almost a year of doing this show, and I'm so thankful for the friends (many of them fellow Kpiss DJs) I've made and all the new music I've discovered along the way. It's all been getting me through some trying times, especially as of late. I feel like some great new things are on the horizon, and I'm eager to get back out into the world post-vaccination (currently awaiting my second dose!), but the waiting for those good times to happen can feel like an eternity. It's hard not to feel completely drained and give up right before the finish line. But I'm going to do my best to keep going, and when it comes to whatever's eating at you, I hope you find the strength to keep going too. We all deserve our own victory lap.

My "Bandcamp Of The Week" for today's show was Powerviolets' excellent cover of the butt rock classic "How You Remind Me" by Nickelback, the champions of bad-but-ultimately-harmless early aughts mainstream rock. Violet Hetson, the main musician behind Powerviolets, manages to both strip the song down to its most raw emotional elements while also still retaining its gruff, distorted edges, making the track feel more real and less manufactured in the process. Definitely a local musician to keep an eye on.

If you missed today's live broadcast, you can stream the recording here via the Kpiss.FM website (there's also a mobile app). You can also catch up on past programs here. VIVA LA COVERS WEEK!
