TERMINAL TRANSMISSION #47: EXILE ON CENTRAL AVE

 TERMINAL TRANSMISSION #47

EXILE ON CENTRAL AVE

by Chris La Vigna (@Chris_LaVigna)

Yonkers feels strange in these early months of 2021...

Today's broadcast of TERMINAL TRANSMISSION was interesting, in that I feel like I managed to do a good job and keep in good spirits, but I could feel a haze of melancholy hanging over me throughout the show, and I wouldn't be surprised at all if any listeners out there detected it in my voice (perhaps because they feel it enveloping them as well?). Nevertheless, I soldiered through. By the end of the show, as I bopped along to the song "Run with Anger" from the BUBBLEGUM CRISIS OVA, fantasizing about being the leader of a cool biker gang, I was feeling much better.

I've been having this recurring dream for a little while now, one where I'm somehow back in high school as a twenty-nine year old man, taking classes and dealing with all the stress and bullshit that high school dealt me back in my teens years, but with the extra embarrassment and frustration of being stuck there as an adult. I can never remember exactly why I'm there, and the entire time I keep thinking "I graduated college for Christ's sake, what am I doing back here? At least back then I had to get that diploma. What the fuck am I walking these halls for now?" It's very weird and uncomfortable and there's never any real resolution for it. Hopefully I can purge whatever's causing these dreams, I'm really getting sick of them. I'll gladly take all the surreal, Lovecraftian monstrosities I usually tangle with in my nightmares over that dreary crap.

My "Bandcamp Pick Of The Week" was the song "Cocktail House" By Kimchi Sawce, Blass 89, Donnie Durag,  and Emilio Craig, off their new four-song E.P. "Junmai," apparently named after a type of sake that I need to try myself; I've been developing a taste for sake over the last few months, I'm at that level of weeb now. I found out about this particular project after watching an interview Blass 89 gave with A.J. Chiarella on his YouTube channel and following him on his socials.

Blass 89 is a damn good rapper and seems to have surrounded himself with a bunch of other super talented artists for this E.P., which, according to its Bandcamp page, "was created in a casual setting over at Loudnoises studio (Kimchi and Donnie's den) in Bushwick." each song has a dreamy, elegant sounding beat behind it, and each rapper makes sure to drop a verse that matches that relaxed-yet-creatively-charged vibe.

If you missed today's show as it was broadcasting live, you can stream the recording here via the Kpiss website (there's also a mobile app now!). You can also catch up on past programs here. Hectic, haphazard times are upon us people. Stay sharp out there! Some form of salvation awaits on the horizon...
