As overwhelming as the world can be, it's important, if not vital, for you to know what's up when it comes to current events. But where can you go to hear a reasonable take on the news that isn't too steeped in histrionics? Enter: ABE LINCOLN'S TOP HAT.

ABE LINCOLN'S TOP HAT is hosted by Ben Kissel, better known as one third of the epic true crime/cryptid podcasting team behind the show LAST PODCAST ON THE LEFT. Anybody who's heard Ben on LPOTL knows that he has an affable and enthusiastic energy behind the mic, and he brings all of that talent, plus all the in-depth knowledge that comes with a political science degree and a past campaign running for Brooklyn Borough President.

Along with co-host Travis Morningstar (who brings a healthy dose of Democratic Socialist insight to the proceedings, something a lefty listener like me greatly appreciates), Ben dives into the news of the day regarding U.S. politics, and neatly sums up how our elected officials continue to fail us on a state, federal, and international level. The key thing here though, is that he manages to do so with wit, humor, and an unyielding desire to see the political machine overhauled, so that it can finally start working for the people instead of against them.

ABE LINCOLN'S TOP HAT also features a lot of interviews with activists, authors, and grassroots politicians who come on to advocate for a cause they passionately believe in. Kissel is great at using his platform to give these people a voice, and help spread new ideas and information, sometimes challenging his audience to think outside of their preconceived political stances instead of just pandering to them.

I personally have found myself using the show as a resource to stay on top of things, and also just feel like I can at least somewhat understand the convoluted nature of being a politically active citizen in this terrible year of our Lord 2020.

In a day and age where print/digital journalism and TV news fails us, and many of us are struggling to find trustworthy information sources, ABE LINCOLN'S TOP HAT is the show to help keep you informed, and maybe even a little more sane, in deeply insane times.

TRACK REVIEW:  MAINTENANCE - "LOW LIFE" by Chris La Vigna ( @instant_insanity_productions ) "Alright, who's been putting 'shrooms in the dog food again?"                           It's been quite some time since I've felt compelled to post anything on this blog.
